National Midwife Day began with the First Midwives Conference in Jakarta on June 24, 1951, on the initiative of senior midwives domiciled in Jakarta.
The things formulated by IBI (Indonesian Midwives Association) at the conference included, among other things, promoting unity and brotherhood among midwives, fostering the knowledge and skills of members of the midwifery profession, assisting the government in national development, increasing the dignity and position of midwives in society
